Peréz: "I have not yet reached my limit"
Jefferson Peréz made world headlines in
Atlanta, striking the first ever Olympic gold for Ecuador in the 20 km walk to become the
youngest Olympic Champion in the history of race walking. In the 18th World Race Walking
Cup in Podebrady, Perez confirmed his talent, clocking 1:18:24 to win the fastest race
ever competed over the distance, with six walkers finishing under 1:19.
Didoni
makes his forecast for 20km Walking Winner tomorrow
Milanese walking star Michele Didoni gave his forecast for the winner of
the 20km men's race which takes place tomorrow here in Podebrady: "It's Perez or
Korzeniowski". But then, maybe Michele himself could be in with a fighting chance -
he certainly hasn't thrown in his walking shoes yet!
Olympic clash in Podebrady
All of the Olympic race walking
medallists will be competing in Podebrady, but the battle to watch will be between Perez
and Korzeniowski. Perez might have needed holding up after he had crossed the line in
Atlanta, but nothing will hold him back in Podebrady, he's in his best shape ever!
Can
Chinese fireworks work again?
Following on from Paul Warburton's
account of the last World Race Walking Cup in Peking, Nicolas Davies looks at China's
chances of repeating her victories in Podebrady: Fireworks in store!
Italy
promises a campaign on all fronts
Italy is sending a formidable squad,
equally balanced in the men's 50km and 20km and women's 10km, to Podebrady for the 18th
edition of the IAAF World Race Walking Cup on April 19-20.
The
Russians are coming
Until the disintegration of the Soviet Bloc,
USSR race walkers were renowned for their prowess and much of their consistency has been
retained by the Russians. The Russian teams will be pulling out all of the stops in
Podebrady in both men's and women's events and will be worthy opponents to the Chinese for
the team awards.
