heptathlon (5812 in 81 at age 16). Youngest winner at 83 World
Champs (18). Won 90 GP LJ; overall GP winner in 92. Became first
woman to jump 25ft with 7.63w at altitude in Sestriere (+2.1) in
92; produced best ever seasons of long jumping in 92 & 94 ...
over 7m in 21 meetings. Has long jumped 7m over 400 times in 156
competitions. Returned to heptathlon after 13 years in 94 and set
world year best of 6741 at Talence. Topped 95 world LJ list but
at World Champs she fouled twice and "safety" jump of
6.64 placed her only 9th. While recovering from knee injury
missed 96 Olympics. Coached by father-in-law, Erich Drechsler.
