Nigeria’s first Olympic champion; set African record of 6.81 qualifying & opened final with 7.12. Tested positive for drugs in June 92 after jumping 7.06 (earlier in year ran 10.84 100 and long jumped 6.90 which were not accepted as African records & 22.93 200); returned to competition after 4 year ban in June 96. Played in 91 World Cup soccer tournament. Youngest of 9 children. Was a police inspector in Lagos until leaving to train full time as an athlete from Oct 95. Has a British coach, ex-sprinter Michael Bruce (22.0 200 in 92)
