Then won Oslo’s Dream Mile in 3:48.94. Brief but brilliant indoor season in 95, running 7:37.82 (4th on all-time list), 2:15.62 (2nd all-time) & 3:36.33. Ran 2nd fastest ever 2000 in 95; his 4:48.69 would have been a world record up to 9 days earlier when Morceli ran 4:47.88. Placed 2nd in 95 GP 3000. Moved up to 5000 in 96, winning races in 13:24.20 and 13:03.29 before taking the Olympic title in 13:07.96. Father is a veterinary surgeon, mother a teacher. Lives in Italy
