Set world record of 12.91 (+0.5 wind) when winning 93 world title ... first Briton to set a new world record in that event since namesake Clement Jackson with 16.0 for 120y hurdles in 1865. Broke world indoor 60H record with 7.30 in 94 and came within 1/100th of Linford Christie’s European flat 60 record with 6.49. Compiled greatest ever season of sprint hurdling in 93 with 13 races sub-13.20 and did even better in 94 with 11 marks inside 13.10 as against 5 in 93. He has 5 legal times under 13.00. At 92 Oly, after running fastest ever heat time of 13.10, he was handicapped in final by a rib cartilage injury, causing trail leg to be too low and he hit several hurdles, placing 7th. After Olympics beat gold medallist (and training companion) Mark McKoy in all 3 of their races. Formerly held world 200H best. Right knee surgery after 90 season; second operation (left knee) in Sep 91. Win streak of 44 hurdles races ended in Feb 95 when beaten by Allen Johnson indoors, 7.42-7.42. In 95 suffered from injuries (had double knee cartilage operation in autumn of 95) and tonsillitis and was in dispute with his national federation (BAF); as a consequence he did not defend world title. Not at his best either in 96 due to continuing knee trouble. Plans to concentrate on long jump (windy 7.96 as a junior) in 98 with target of breaking fellow Welshman Lynn Davies’ UK record of 8.23
