Scoring Events in IAAF Permit Meetings

The IAAF Council, which met in Seville on June 22, took the following decisions which affect the Grand Prix standings:

In order to give a fair chance of scoring in all events and in order to comply with Grand Prix Rule 10.3 offering a minimum of ten scoring possibilities in Grand Prix events, the Council decided that Men’s High Jump and Shot Put, and Women’s 3000m and Long Jump will score full Grand Prix points whenever scoring in a Grand Prix II meeting, for the entire Grand Prix season 1998.

Men’s Hammer Throw and Women’s Discus Throw, as long throws, already score full Grand Prix points in Grand Prix II meetings, and Council decided that these events would also score in the Permit meetings of the 1998 season, subject to the participation in the competition of three qualified athletes. The Permit meetings concerned are:

Sydney Track Classic, Sydney (AUS), February 28
Meeting di Atletica Leggera, Torino (ITA), June 24
International Meeting, Budapest (HUN), July 5
Adidas - Ciutat de Barcelona, Barcelona (ESP), July 25
